Give credit, keep blame

 Reverse the usual instinct.

"A leader is best when people barely know he exists... they will say: we did it ourselves." — Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Last week a project landed well, and my instinct was to step into the light.

I caught it. Passed the credit to the two people who'd actually carried it.

Costs me nothing. Buys everything.

The default runs the other way — grab the wins, spread the losses. It works exactly once.

The leaders people follow do the opposite. Credit flows down. Blame stops with them.

A team can feel the difference in a week.

What if you spent the wins on your people and paid for the losses yourself?
