Don't manage by hope

"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." — Colin Powell

Wednesday, I heard myself say, "It'll probably sort itself out."

That's not a plan. That's a wish wearing a tie.

Hope is a fine fuel and a useless steering wheel.

The projects that drift are usually the ones where nobody named who does what by when.

Managing by hope feels kind in the moment. It's actually just postponing the hard part onto future you.

Clarity is the real generosity — an owner, a date, a definition of done.

This week, try replacing one "it should be fine" with a name and a deadline.
