Conflict creates progress
Great relationships and great teams are not defined by an absence of conflict.
A visible conflict of ideas is one of the most reliable indicators that a team is continually learning. Great teams argue, and this creates better understanding, better communication, and better outcomes.
Mediocre teams have two ways of dealing with conflict:
There is no conflict on the surface: People suppress their true feelings and ideas because they wrongly think this benefits their team.
There is rigid polarization: Most people "speak out," but there is no movement or progress. Everyone knows where everyone stands, and there is a total lack of openness to new ideas or changing mindsets.
