A Bias for Action
Is the goal to avoid errors or to achieve excellence?
Avoiding errors creates a bias towards passivity. The best way to avoid a mistake is not to make a decision at all.
Building something that matters, pursuing greatness, this path is littered with decisions. Constant decisions. And with decisions comes mistakes. And here lies the paradox: You cannot achieve excellence without making decisions (ie mistakes).
By focusing on making decisions, and not being paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake, we develop a bias for action.
What questions do you most often ask yourself?
How can we not mess this up? versus How can we build something that matters?
Different questions. Different paths. Different outcomes. Your choice.
