You need:
1 - A great product
2 - Great way(s) to distribute your product to your users
3 - A financial model
Too often teams and organizations over focus on building the product and under focus on how to get that product into customer’s hands. Another pitfall is that teams ignore building a sustainable financial model. If the money runs out and the lights get turned off, the 1 and 2 don’t really matter.
Spend a disproportionate amount of time focusing on unique, cost-effective ways to get your product into your customers hands. And make sure to invest in a financial model that covers your costs and gives you a surplus to both grow and weather any potential downturns.
Don’t get distracted by the shiny (and fun) object. Keep your focus on the things that allow you to even have a chance to focus on, and build new, shiny objects in the first place.
