Creating the Conditions for Change

Image
“It is not simply the brightest who have the best ideas; it is those who are best at harvesting ideas from others. It is not only the most determined who drive change; it is those who most fully engage with like-minded people. And it is not wealth or prestige that best motivates people; it is respect and help from peers.” - Alex Pentland Don’t come up with new ideas. Harvest the best from others. Don’t want it more than others. Find other people who want it as badly as you do. Don’t focus on vanity. Focus on helping others and building trust.

Courage or comfort?

When you reflect, ask yourself: Did I choose courage or comfort? Those who can exist and thrive while being uncomfortable will learn the most and rise the fastest. You want to live your life in the arena. Putting yourself out there. Failing, hearing the criticism, and pressing forward. The only guarantee from being in the arena is that you will get knocked down constantly. Continue to get up. It will be worth it. Thank you, Brene Brown.

Conflict creates progress

Great relationships and great teams are not defined by an absence of conflict. A visible conflict of ideas is one of the most reliable indicators that a team is continually learning. Great teams argue, and this creates better understanding, better communication, and better outcomes. Mediocre teams have two ways of dealing with conflict: There is no conflict on the surface: People suppress their true feelings and ideas because they wrongly think this benefits their team. There is rigid polarization: Most people "speak out," but there is no movement or progress. Everyone knows where everyone stands, and there is a total lack of openness to new ideas or changing mindsets. Thank you, PS .

Competence and attitude

The more scarce your skills are, the more you can get away with having a bad attitude. The better your attitude (generous, positive, helpful), the more trust you develop and the runway to level up and build more skills. Your path to becoming world-class comes down to your ability to build the combination of these two domains: competence and attitude. Thank you R.
